Nickel

Outlook for nickel industry in Indonesia will be stable over the near to medium term.

Our view is based on the combination of high demand for nickel products to meet the global needs for stainless steel and electric vehicle (EV) battery, and Indonesia’s position as the largest producer of primary nickel.

The enforcement of government regulations to create a downstream nickel industry also affirms that the domestic nickel industry is one of the government’s priorities to boost economic growth.

Nickel smelter investments have contributed substantially to the country’s foreign direct investment the last six years (2015-2020).

Aiming to become a global hub in the EV industry supply chain, Indonesia targets the nickel industry to exceed the palm-oil exports as the country’s second-largest export over the medium term.

Coal

Coal is a major international commodity used primarily for generating electricity and producing coke for steelmaking.

The first use is increasing steadily; the latter use is constant to slightly declining.

Indonesia is one of the world's largest producers and exporters of coal. Since 2005, when it overtook Australia, the country is the leading exporter in terms of thermal coal.

A significant portion of its exported thermal coal consists of the medium-quality type (between 5100 and 6100 cal/gram) and the low-quality type (below 5100 cal/gram) for which large demand originates from China and India. According to information presented by Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Indonesian coal reserves are estimated to last around 83 years if the current rate of production is to be continued.

Silican Sand

Silica Sand is quartz that over time, through the work of water and wind, has been broken down into tiny granules.

Commercial Silica Sand is used in industrial processing to make everyday items such as glass, construction materials, personal care products, electronics, and even renewable materials.

Industrial sand is a term normally applied to high purity silica sand products with closely controlled sizing.
